About our Mission

Angels on Horseback's ongoing goal is to provide opportunities for individuals with mental or physical disabilities while learning to care for and ride a horse. We offer therapeutic horseback riding and other equine activities which provides many physical benefits, including improved strength, flexibility, muscle tone and motor skill development. Our program also provides wonderful emotional benefits to our students which include: a strong sense of belonging, independence, self confidence, and happiness.

Our dedicated caring PATH Intl certified instructors are specially trained in adaptive teaching methods. They are trained to work with people with a variety of disabilities to learn horsemanship skills while experiencing the equine environment at our program. Our instructors help to build rewarding relationships between the student and the horse. This relationship of trust and loyalty between student, instructor and horse helps the students to realize their self importance and the student feels confident to extend these wonderful new attributes into their personal lives. Angels on Horseback has changed and enriched the lives of many including our volunteers. To learn more about becoming a volunteer, please go to our volunteer’s page by using the above volunteer tab.

Schedule of Lessons

Our hours of operation are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9AM to 12PM.
Volunteers arrive Tuesdays 2:30PM,  Saturdays 8AM.
Each lesson is fifty minutes in length and costs $40.00, and each Session is 10 weeks long.

Factors that may cause us to cancel lessons include, but are not limited to, inclement weather/emergencies, and/or lack of instructors/volunteers. In most scenarios, the AOH website will be updated to reflect cancellations if appropriate prior to the lesson days. Please let us know if your participant won't make his/her lesson.  We must have 24 hours notice so that we can utilize your lesson time and reschedule your lesson.  If there is an emergency, we understand, but please remember that there will be instructors, volunteers, and horses all prepared and looking forward to your participant's lesson.  Please help us to operate efficiently by calling Leslie Elliott's cell phone if you need to cancel your lesson and she will work with you to reschedule.  AOH is unable reimburse or reschedule lessons that were not cancelled according to these terms.
