Festival of Trees: The Book Angels chose 02/09/2010
Angels on Horseback won the 2009 Festival of Trees at the Pickens County Library. For winning, Angels got to choose a book for the library to purchase that best describes what we are all about. Leslie Elliott chose the book “Special Needs, Special Horses” a Guide to the Benefits of Therapeutic riding, by Naomi Scott. In this book Scott offers information about the many benefits of therapeutic horseback riding. She describes the many techniques of the process and how it can improve the lives of the physically and mentally challenged. Naomi Scott also writes about the roles of the instructors, physical therapists, volunteers, and the horses. She profiles individuals involved in the therapy, including clients whose needs arose from stoke, cerebral palsy, transverse mellitus, Parkinson’s disease, paralysis, sensory integration, multiple sclerosis, Down syndrome, autism and more. Special Needs, Special Horses is a wonderful guide for families and practitioners of therapeutic riding. We invite all to go to the library and check out this truly enlightening book. New Shed for Angels 4-Legged Volunteers 01/30/2010
Angels on Horseback's two ponies and one miniature horse (Mr. Ed, Sweetpea, and Sugar) will soon have a new three and a half sided shed in which they can avoid bad weather this winter. This will give them shelter from the wind, rain and cold. We hope to have building materials donated and several very capable volunteers have offered to form a building team. If you would like to apply hammer to nails, please call the number at the bottom of the volunteers page. If you would like to make a donation toward building materials or hay please call or use our donations page. While this may not be the Tour of Homes, life will certainly be more pleasant for these wonderful animals who give so much joy to our students. Article by Rosie C. |
